Position Overview
The Communications Coordinator supports the development and implementation of effective communication strategies that advance the church’s mission and strengthen engagement across our community. This role creates compelling written and visual content, manages key communication channels, and ensures clear, consistent messaging that reflects our values. The position requires a strong visual sensibility and advanced design skills to create professional, engaging content for both digital and print communications.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and audience-specific materials for newsletters, emails, social media, publications, and the website. They are adaptable in tone and style, attentive to detail, and able to translate strategic direction into polished communication pieces.
This position is well-suited for a creative, organized, and collaborative individual with excellent interpersonal skills. The role is primarily office-based with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement, and may include occasional travel across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Writing
  • Write and edit content for newsletters, member updates, program communications, and announcements.
  • Create storytelling pieces featuring congregational life, events, and program initiatives.
  • Manage the blog, including scheduling posts from multiple writers, editing submissions, preparing content for publication, and creating original posts.
  • Assist with sensitive communications such as funeral notices and pastoral updates.
  • Support minister and volunteer communications with accessible, well-crafted written materials.
Digital & Social Media
  • Manage the organization’s social media channels, including content scheduling, publishing, monitoring, and day-to-day engagement.
  • Work with the Communications & Member Services Manager to develop and evolve social media strategy, guidelines, and content plans.
  • Produce graphics, images, and visual assets for digital platforms.
Publications & Creative Design
  • Design and produce professional print and digital communications, including publications, promotional and event materials, graphics, and other visual assets.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to create professional, brand-aligned layouts and graphics.
Member & Communication Support
  • Respond to communications and general church-related inquiries from ministers, members, and the public with warmth, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Provide helpful information and direction, recognizing when sensitive, complex, or spiritual matters should be escalated.
·        Identify recurring questions or needs and share insights that can help improve communication and member support.
Brand & Communication Support
  • Apply established brand guidelines consistently across all channels.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support communication needs and maintain message alignment.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3 + years experience required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, with strong working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong design eye with the ability to create aesthetically appealing visuals, layouts, and digital assets.
  • Strong writing and editing skills across various tones and formats.
  • Strong proficiency with generative AI tools, with demonstrated ability to use AI effectively and responsibly to support writing, editing, content development, design, and other communications workflows.
  • Experience managing social media channels, including content planning, scheduling, publishing, monitoring and analytics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to respond to sensitive situations with empathy, clarity, and discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable receiving direction.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and culture of the church community.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
 
Compensation & Benefits
·        Estimated Salary Range: $50K - $68k based on experience
·        100% employer-paid benefits.
